The Atari 50 Celebration is an excellent interactive collection of Atari history and games, and its only gotten better over time as they've released more and more DLC.
Now they're doing it again, with The Namco Legendary Pack DLC, adding an all new timeline exploring the relationship of Atari and Namco, plus a bunch of new games:
- PAC-MAN for the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, and Atari 8-bit computers (which is the first time these versions have been rereleased)
- U.S. Arcade releases of Dig Dug and Xevious, which were developed by Namco but originally released in the U.S. by Atari
- Home releases of Galaga, Xevious, Galaxian and Dig Dug
While the Atari 2600 version of PAC-MAN was notoriously bad, I had the 5200 version as a kid and it was really good. Honestly the Atari 5200 doesn't get enough love, and I'm always happy to see rereleases whenever possible.
But Atari 50 DLC isn't the only thing the Atari x Namco team-up is delivering.
Atari is releasing a limited edition PAC-MAN themed Atari 2600+, along with PAC-MAN Ghost-themed controllers, and a PAC-MAN 2-in-1 cartridge which includes the Atari 2600 version of PAC-MAN along with an all new Atari 7800 version that is closer to the original arcade release.
Pre-orders open July 23rd.
In addition to the new console, Atari is also releasing cartridge versions of PAC-MAN Double-feature, Galaga 7800, Xevious 7800, and Dig Dug 7800.
It's a good time to be an Atari fan.
